Climb a dormant volcano in the Great Rift Valley and walk the crater rim, an easy day trip from Nairobi.
Overview
A Mount Longonot hike is one of the best day trips from Nairobi for active travellers. The dormant volcano rises to about 2,780 m above the floor of the Great Rift Valley, and a steep path leads to its crater rim, with views over Lake Naivasha and a forest growing inside the crater.
Most hikers reach the rim in 1.5–2 hours and can walk the full 7 km loop around the crater. Zebras, giraffes and gazelles often graze near the base. Our driver collects you from your Nairobi hotel and returns you in the evening.
Best for: Day trip. Popular with: Active travellers from the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and Scandinavia. Best time: Year-round (best in dry months).
Price is from USD 120 per adult sharing; the final cost depends on season, accommodation and group size.
