Before you compare trips, one honest note. The US State Department reportedly raised its Kenya advisory in October 2026, and entry rules changed this year. We cover both in plain language below, with links to the official sources, so you can decide with the facts. Our longer blog guide, Kenya safari from the USA: 12 essential tips, goes deeper on entry rules and flights; this page focuses on the packages, prices and how to book.

Why Choose Kenya Safari Packages From the USA?

Kenya is one of the most established safari countries in Africa, with English widely spoken, a long tradition of private guided safaris and a wide spread of wildlife within a few hours of Nairobi. For Americans comparing Kenya safari packages from the USA, the case rests on a few practical points.

Many travellers also ask how long the trip really takes once flights are counted. We answer that below, along with the entry rules and the advisory. If you prefer to browse by destination first, see our Masai Mara safari and Amboseli safari pages, or our full range of Kenya safari packages.

Our Kenya Safari Packages From the USA, With Listed Prices

These Kenya safari packages from the USA are real trips on our site. The price in each row is the starting price shown on that trip page, listed per person in US dollars. Several pages state the price as per adult sharing. The final cost depends on season, group size and hotel choice, so treat the table as a guide and ask for a written quote for your dates.

International flights, the Kenya eTA, travel insurance, tips and personal expenses are usually extra, and each trip page lists what is and is not included. The four-day camping safari is a camping trip, so it suits travellers who are happy with simpler accommodation. For a wider look at what drives safari prices, read how much an African safari costs.

Current US Travel Advisory for Kenya

You should know about the advisory before you pay a deposit on any of our Kenya safari packages from the USA. News reports from 20 to 21 October 2026 (Reuters via The Star, the Nation, TimesLive and CBS affiliates) say the US State Department raised Kenya to Level 3, Reconsider Travel, on 19 October 2026, citing health risks including Ebola, along with crime, kidnapping, terrorism, unrest and traffic safety.

Please read the official text yourself. When we loaded the State Department advisory for Kenya on travel.state.gov while preparing this page, the text we could retrieve still showed the earlier Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution, wording dated 28 July 2026, so the page may have been cached or updated since. We cannot confirm the live level for you, which is why the official page is the authority and this page is not.

The July 2026 text that we could read lists Do Not Travel areas including the Nairobi neighbourhoods of Eastleigh and Kibera; Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Lamu and Tana River counties (except Tsavo National Park); Kilifi County north of highway C103 and coastal areas north of Malindi; West Pokot and western Turkana; and parts of Marsabit and Turkana near the Ethiopian border. It also warns about violent protests that can block roads, limited medical care outside major cities, and road accidents, which it names as a leading cause of injury and death among Americans, including safari vehicles. Elections are scheduled for August 2027.

The areas named in that list are not the parks on the routes above, and we do not sell Lamu on this page. That is not a guarantee of anything. Advisories change, risks apply across the country, and only you can judge your own comfort.

Entry Requirements: Kenya eTA and Travel Insurance for US Passport Holders

Travellers on Kenya safari packages from the USA need an approved Kenya eTA before boarding, and that includes US passport holders. Apply only on the official portal, etakenya.go.ke, because copycat sites charge more. The fee is from USD 30 per person, depending on the type of application, and approval has taken about three business days, so apply at least two weeks before you fly and confirm the fee on the portal. The State Department text we read says your passport must be valid for six months beyond arrival and have two blank pages.

Kenya also introduced mandatory travel health insurance for visitors staying under 12 months, reported from about 6 October 2026, with cover of at least USD 50,000 from an approved Kenyan insurer. Reports put the premium near USD 44 per adult, but rules and prices moved during a court challenge, so confirm everything on the portal. Our Kenya mandatory travel insurance guide and the Nairobi to Zanzibar layover guide track the same rules. The Kenyan policy does not replace the trip insurance you buy at home for cancellation, medical care and evacuation.

Health and Vaccines for American Travellers

Before you fly on any of our Kenya safari packages from the USA, see a doctor or travel clinic well before you go. The CDC traveler page for Kenya lists recommended vaccines and malaria advice for US travellers. We could not load the text of that page while writing, so we do not quote it here; read it and take it to your appointment. Our Kenya safari malaria guide explains the basics in plain language.

Flights From the USA to Nairobi and the Time Difference

For Kenya safari packages from the USA, the flight is the biggest variable. Kenya Airways launched a daily nonstop from New York JFK to Nairobi on 5 August 2023, taking roughly 14 hours, and it is the only nonstop from the USA to Nairobi that we could confirm. From other US cities most travellers connect once, often through a European, Gulf or Ethiopian hub. Schedules change, so check current schedules with the airline and book flights only after your dates and paperwork are settled.

Nairobi is on UTC+3 all year and does not change its clocks. That makes it 8 hours ahead of New York in winter and 7 hours ahead in summer, with Los Angeles another three hours behind New York. Plan a gentle first day: most Americans arrive in the morning after an overnight flight, and we suggest a rest night before the long drive to the Mara. Our guide to Kenya safaris from Nairobi shows what is realistic from the capital.

Best Time for Kenya Safari Packages From the USA

The best time for Kenya safari packages from the USA depends on what you want to see and when you can travel. Kenya is a year-round destination.

As a rule, ask us about camps and flights 6 to 9 months ahead for July to October and the festive weeks. Outside those periods the pressure is lower, though availability always depends on the camp.

How Many Days Do Kenya Safari Packages From the USA Need?

Allow at least six days on the ground, because the flights take up two days of any short itinerary. Four days works for a quick Mara trip if you accept a tight schedule. Seven to ten days gives a better pace, with the Mara, Amboseli and a lake or the beach, and 14 to 15 days lets you cover Samburu, the Laikipia plateau and Tsavo as well. If you are unsure, our Kenya family safari packages page and our group safari packages page show typical lengths.

A Sample 7-Day Kenya Safari Itinerary

This is the day plan of our Kenya Classic Group Safari, one of the most popular Kenya safari packages from the USA, listed from USD 1,650 per adult sharing, with six nights on the road.

Amboseli to Naivasha is about 5 to 6 hours by road and Naivasha to the Mara about 4 to 5 hours, with stops. If you would rather skip the long road days, ask us to price flights instead.

A Sample 10-Day Kenya Safari and Beach Itinerary

Our Kenya Safari and Beach Holiday is listed from USD 2,450 per adult sharing. It spends three nights in the Mara, two in Amboseli, one in Nairobi and three on Diani Beach.

There is no direct road between the Mara and Amboseli, so the night in Nairobi breaks the journey. Because most US flights arrive in Nairobi in the morning, many guests add a rest night at the start; ask us to price it.

Combining Kenya With Tanzania and Zanzibar

Many Americans on Kenya safari packages from the USA fly into Nairobi and out of Zanzibar, or add the Serengeti. The 14-day Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar Family Holiday is listed from USD 4,300, and our Kenya and Tanzania safari packages page shows more routes. Two cautions: Zanzibar has its own entry and insurance rules, and the State Department text we read says travellers arriving from Tanzania must complete a health surveillance form, so ask us before you build a cross-border leg.
