A 6 day Kenya safari is the ideal length for a group of friends, a club or an association: long enough for full days in the Masai Mara and short enough to fit a normal holiday allowance. This classic circuit gives you three nights in the Mara, rhinos at Lake Nakuru and a hippo boat ride at Lake Naivasha. Your group travels in pop-up roof 4x4s with a window seat for everyone, and the price starts from USD 1,390 per adult sharing.

Why Choose a 6 Day Kenya Safari for Groups?
Organising a group trip is usually harder than the trip itself. You need rooms in the same camp, enough vehicles, a sensible route and a price that works for everyone. This 6 day Kenya safari solves those problems with a proven route, one local team and group rates that fall as your numbers grow.
We run it for groups of 6 to 30 travellers. Each vehicle carries up to six or seven guests, so larger parties travel in several vehicles with one guide per vehicle. Everyone sees the same wildlife, shares the same camps and meets for the same group dinners.
- Three nights in the Mara: time for full-day game drives without rushing.
- Three destinations: the Mara plains, the rhinos of Lake Nakuru and the hippos of Lake Naivasha.
- Private 4x4s: a window seat for everyone and a guide in every vehicle.
- Group pricing: vehicle and guide costs are shared, so the price per person falls as the group grows.
- Easy logistics: we hold rooms for the whole party in the same camps.

Day-by-Day 6 Day Kenya Safari Itinerary
Days 1 to 3: The Masai Mara
Day 1, Nairobi to the Masai Mara. Depart Nairobi and stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint, where the land drops away in a vast, hazy escarpment. You arrive at your Mara camp for lunch, then set out on an afternoon game drive. The day ends with a welcome dinner, which is a good moment for the group to meet your guides.
Day 2, a full day in the Mara. Spend the whole day on the plains with a picnic lunch, following lions, cheetahs and elephants. From July to October the Great Migration herds are also in the Mara. Learn more about the park on our Masai Mara safari page.
Day 3, the Mara at your own pace. Take morning and afternoon game drives, with the option of a sunrise balloon flight or a Maasai village visit for part of the group. With several vehicles, some guests can take part in an activity while others stay on a game drive, so nobody has to do what they do not want to.

Days 4 to 6: Nakuru, Naivasha and Nairobi
Day 4, Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru. Take an early game drive, then drive to Lake Nakuru National Park for an afternoon game drive. The park is small and easy to explore, and it is one of the best places in Kenya for white and black rhinos and Rothschild’s giraffes. See our Lake Nakuru safari guide for more.
Day 5, Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha. Drive to Lake Naivasha for a boat ride among hippos, followed by a walk on Crescent Island. In the evening your group gathers for a farewell dinner by the lake.
Day 6, back to Nairobi. Enjoy a relaxed morning and drive back to Nairobi, arriving by early afternoon for onward flights.
Wildlife on a 6 Day Kenya Safari
Masai Mara: big cats and migration
The Mara has Kenya’s highest concentration of predators. Lions are common, cheetahs hunt on the open plains and leopards hide in riverside trees. Elephants, buffalo, giraffes, zebras and topi complete the picture. From July to October the Great Migration brings wildebeest and zebra to the Mara River.
Lake Nakuru: rhinos and giraffes
Lake Nakuru is a rhino sanctuary. Look for white and black rhinos, Rothschild’s giraffes, buffalo, waterbuck and lakeshore birds. The compact park means you can see a lot in an afternoon.
Lake Naivasha: hippos and birds
The boat ride brings you close to hippos and fish eagles, and Crescent Island lets you walk among giraffes, zebras and wildebeest. It is a gentle end to the safari.
Planning a Group Safari: Tips for Organisers
A smooth trip starts with good planning. These tips come from the groups we host most often.
- Book early: for July to October and Christmas, book 9 to 12 months ahead so we can hold enough rooms in one camp.
- Confirm numbers: group rates depend on how many travel, so agree a firm count before you ask for a final quote.
- Plan for different interests: with several vehicles, some guests can take a balloon flight or village visit while others stay on a game drive.
- Appoint a contact: one person who collects passport details and dietary needs makes our work faster.
- Think about extras: most groups from Europe add 3 to 4 nights at Diani or Zanzibar. Ask for a combined quote and see our beach experience page.
Who Is a 6 Day Kenya Safari For?
This trip works for any party that wants a classic Kenya experience without a two-week commitment. It is most popular with friends travelling together, clubs, associations and extended families from the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Scandinavia. Because the route is the best-known circuit in Kenya, it suits first-time visitors very well.
- First-time visitors: the three destinations show you the big cats, the rhinos and the lakes in one trip.
- Clubs and associations: a clear itinerary, group dinners and shared vehicles make organising simple.
- Friends and families: a relaxed pace, with time on the lakes as well as on game drives.
- Photography groups: three nights in the Mara mean plenty of time for light and patience.
A 6 day Kenya safari is also easy to build upon. Groups that have more time can swap to a longer route, and groups that want a rest can add a few nights at the coast. If you are comparing options, remember that a shorter trip means a lower cost per person, which can make it easier to agree a budget across a large party.
Group dynamics matter on safari. Some guests want to be up at dawn and out all day, while others prefer a slower morning. With several vehicles, we can set one early and one relaxed, and everyone meets at camp for lunch or dinner. That flexibility is one of the main reasons groups return to us for a second trip.
Accommodation and Pace
You stay in the accommodation listed in your itinerary, with full-board meals while on safari. Three nights in the Mara mean you unpack once for the longest stay, and the lake days are relaxed. The longest drives are on day 1 and days 4 to 6, and each is broken up with game viewing or a stop. For examples of camps and lodges, browse our Kenya lodges and camps.
Best Time for a 6 Day Kenya Safari
You can travel all year. The driest and busiest months are June to October, and the Great Migration reaches the Mara from July to October.
- January to March: hot, dry weather with good game viewing and fewer visitors.
- April to May: the long rains bring green scenery, lower prices and some muddy roads.
- June to October: the dry season and the best overall time, with the migration in the Mara.
- November to December: short rains, lush landscapes and excellent birding, with busy festive weeks.
How Much Does a 6 Day Kenya Safari Cost?
This 6 day Kenya safari starts from USD 1,390 per adult sharing. The final price depends on the season, the accommodation and the size of your group. Larger groups share vehicle and guide costs, so the cost per person falls, and we quote exact group rates for your numbers and dates. For a wider guide, read how much an African safari costs.

Photography on a 6 Day Kenya Safari
The pop-up roof gives you a clear view for photography, and a window seat means no one has to fight for a shot. A lens of 200 to 400 mm suits most wildlife, while a wide lens helps with the Rift Valley view and the Mara skies. Early mornings and late afternoons give the best light. Bring a bean bag or a soft scarf to rest your camera on the window frame, and carry spare batteries.
What to Pack
- Lightweight neutral clothing in khaki, olive or beige, plus a warm layer for early mornings and evenings.
- A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and high-factor sunscreen.
- Binoculars and a camera with a zoom lens, spare batteries and memory cards.
- Closed, comfortable shoes and a dust scarf.
- Insect repellent and any malaria prevention your doctor recommends.
- A soft-sided bag, because space in the vehicle is limited.
Food and Dietary Notes
Vegetarian and Jain meals can be requested in advance for any member of your group, and we confirm with each camp what its kitchen can prepare before you pay. Camps on this route cook for guests from many countries, so vegetarian dishes are an everyday request, but menus vary by camp and season and we never promise a specific menu. The easiest way for a group is one list with each traveller’s name and needs in plain words: eggs and dairy or not, Jain rules such as no onion, garlic or root vegetables, vegan or gluten-free needs, and allergies marked separately. We send that list to every camp in writing and ask for vegetarian picnic boxes on the full-day game drive in the Mara. Our guide to a vegetarian safari in Kenya explains what to expect and what to pack.
Visas, Entry and Health
Most visitors need an approved Kenya eTA before arrival, so each traveller should apply only on the official portal at etakenya.go.ke. Since October 2026 the eTA includes Kenya’s mandatory Kenyan Government travel health insurance (about USD 44 plus small fees per traveller, valid 90 days), and a traveller’s own insurance does not replace it; see our Kenya mandatory travel insurance guide. Malaria is present in much of Kenya, so speak to your doctor about prevention, and keep your own travel insurance for wider cover. Before you book, we talk you through your route and current travel conditions. For official information, see Kenya Wildlife Service and Magical Kenya.
