Kenya safari packages from Australia are easiest to plan when you know three things up front: the entry paperwork, the flights, and which of our real trips fits your time and budget. Sense of Adventure is a licensed Nairobi safari company, and every trip below runs in your own 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof and a dedicated driver-guide, with park fees and Nairobi transfers included.
This guide is written for couples, families, honeymooners, retirees and groups flying from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and beyond. We write it on 28 October 2026, and where we could not confirm something on an official page, we say so and we will confirm details in writing before you pay.

✅ Kenya Safari Packages from Australia: The Quick Answer
- Entry: Australian passport holders should expect to need an approved Kenya eTA before boarding, applied for only on the official portal, plus Kenya’s new mandatory travel health insurance. Confirm both on the portal before you pay for flights.
- Cost: our listed trips run from USD 590 (4 days, camping) to USD 4,650 (14 days), per adult sharing, before international flights. We list prices in US dollars only.
- Flights: we could not confirm a non-stop flight from Australia to Nairobi, so plan on at least one stop and a journey of about a day. Check current schedules.
- Time difference: Kenya is UTC+3 all year, 5 hours behind Perth and 7 to 8 hours behind Sydney and Melbourne.
- Best time: July to October for the Great Migration in the Masai Mara, which is also Australian winter. December and January suit Australian summer school holidays.
- Length: allow at least 6 days on the ground, and 10 days or more if you want a beach finish.

Why Choose Kenya Safari Packages from Australia?
Australians already love wide-open country, so Kenya’s savanna tends to feel instantly familiar and then completely different once the lions and elephants appear. You get big cats, elephants, giraffes and, in season, the Great Migration, in a country where the safari itself was born, and a trip you can build in one booking with a local team.
- Seasons that suit you: Kenya’s dry, wildlife-rich months from July to October fall in the Australian winter, and December and January line up with the summer school break.
- One booking, one team: we plan the Land Cruiser, driver-guide, camps, park fees and transfers together and send a written, itemised quote.
- Easy to extend: add Diani Beach, Zanzibar or a Tanzania leg without changing operator.
- Evacuation cover included: every Sense of Adventure trip includes AMREF Flying Doctors evacuation cover, explained on our emergency evacuation cover page.
The trade-off is distance. The journey from Australia is long, so we advise at least six days on the ground and a quiet first night. If you want the wider picture first, our guides to whether a Kenya safari is worth it and how much an African safari costs are good starting points.
Kenya Safari Packages from Australia: 10 Trips With Prices
These are real Sense of Adventure trips, and each price is the starting price shown on the trip page, per person sharing, in US dollars. We do not quote Australian dollar figures, because exchange rates move daily; check your bank’s current rate before you budget. Your written quote itemises dates, rooms and any peak-season supplements, and every trip can be adjusted to your dates, subject to availability.

Which Trip Suits Which Australian Traveller?
Couples and honeymooners: Kenya safari packages from Australia
For a honeymoon or anniversary, three of our trips stand out. The 4-day Masai Mara honeymoon safari is listed from USD 1,900, the 7-day Kenya bush and beach honeymoon from USD 2,800, and the 10-day Kenya and Zanzibar honeymoon from USD 3,650. Compare them on our Kenya honeymoon safari page.
Families
The 5-day Kenya Family Safari starts in Nairobi, adds Lake Naivasha and ends in the Mara from USD 1,290, with shorter drives than longer circuits. Camps and activities set minimum ages, so read our safari minimum age guide and our Kenya family safari packages before you choose dates. For a first Australian family trip, keep the flights and the safari separated by a rest night.
Retirees and seniors
A relaxed pace matters more than a long list of parks. Our 6-day gentle fly-in safari for seniors uses short flights and easy-access vehicles and is listed from USD 3,600. Our guide to safari in your 70s and 80s covers health checks, insurance age limits and pacing, and our limited mobility guide covers vehicles and camps.
Groups of friends and extended families
The 6-day Kenya Group Safari and the 7-day Kenya Classic Group Safari are built for groups, with every guest in a private vehicle and per-person prices that can fall as the group grows. Ask us about rooming and vehicle numbers when you request a quote.
Kenya Safari Packages from Australia: Entry Rules, eTA and Insurance
Most visitors on Kenya safari packages from Australia need two things before they fly: an approved Kenya eTA and Kenya’s mandatory travel health insurance. Check both on official sources, because the rules have moved quickly this year.
- Kenya eTA: apply only on the official portal at etakenya.go.ke. We could not load the portal while writing this page, and a July 2026 third-party guide reports that Australia is not on the exempt list, so assume you need one and confirm on the portal. The fee is from USD 30, depending on the type of application, so check the portal for the current fee and passport rules. Copycat sites charge more.
- Travel health insurance: from about 6 October 2026, non-Kenyans staying less than 12 months need travel health insurance from an approved Kenyan insurer, with cumulative cover of at least USD 50,000. Reports put the premium at about USD 44 per adult plus an access fee of about USD 1, but rules and prices shifted during a court challenge, so confirm the cost on the portal. Our mandatory travel insurance guide and Nairobi to Zanzibar layover guide stay in line with this.
- Your own cover: the Kenyan policy does not replace trip insurance from home. Buy cancellation, medical and evacuation cover separately, and tell your insurer where you are going.
- Timing: apply once your dates are fixed and well before you fly. Keep the eTA and insurance confirmations on your phone and in print.
Is Kenya Safe? What Smartraveller Says
The Australian government’s travel advice site is Smartraveller, and its Kenya page is the authority, not us. We could not load the live page on 28 October 2026, so we cannot state today’s level. The last wording we could verify, from Smartraveller’s own post in February 2025, said it continued to advise Australians to exercise a high degree of caution overall in Kenya, to avoid large public gatherings and demonstrations, and that terrorist attacks could happen at any time.
Advice changes, so read the current Smartraveller page and subscribe to its updates before you book, and again before you fly. Ask your insurer how the current advice affects your cover. On our side, you travel in a private vehicle with a driver-guide who checks conditions daily, camps escort guests after dark, and every trip includes AMREF Flying Doctors evacuation cover. Our guide to leaving JKIA safely covers the airport and the city.
Health: Malaria, Yellow Fever and Vaccines
See a doctor or travel clinic well before you fly, because malaria is present in much of Kenya and some vaccines need time. The Kenya Wildlife Service also advises taking malaria prophylactics before, during and after your trip, and our Kenya safari malaria guide explains the basics. We could not load the CDC page text, so we do not quote it here.
- Yellow fever on arrival in Kenya: Kenya asks for proof of vaccination from travellers arriving from a yellow fever endemic country, according to the US State Department’s Kenya advisory. Australia has no yellow fever, so a direct journey should not trigger it, but a connection through an endemic country might. Check your route with your airline.
- Returning to Australia: the Australian Department of Health’s yellow fever fact sheet lists Kenya as a yellow fever risk country. It says travellers must declare a visit to a risk country in the last six days, may be asked for an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis, and are referred to a biosecurity officer if they cannot show one.
- Medical care: care can be limited outside Nairobi, which is why evacuation cover matters. Carry regular medication in your hand luggage with a doctor’s letter.
Flights for Kenya Safari Packages from Australia
We could not confirm a non-stop flight between Australia and Nairobi, so treat any non-stop listing as something to verify with the airline. Flight aggregators we checked on 28 October 2026 show itineraries from Sydney with total journeys of roughly 22 to 25 hours, and list airlines including Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways and Qantas, some of them on codeshares. Check current schedules on the airline’s own site, and do the same for Melbourne and Perth, where we could not source journey times.
Gulf hubs such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha and the Ethiopian hub at Addis Ababa are the connections most often listed. Our Nairobi vs Addis Ababa layover guide compares hubs, and our guide to booking flights or safari first explains the order to book in. Book flights only after your dates and the entry paperwork are settled.

Time difference and jet lag
Kenya is on UTC+3 and does not change its clocks. Sydney and Melbourne are 8 hours ahead of Nairobi while daylight saving applies (early October to early April) and 7 hours ahead the rest of the year. Brisbane is 7 hours ahead all year and Perth is 5 hours ahead. With a gap of 5 to 8 hours, a quiet first evening near Nairobi helps before the drive to the Mara.
Best Time for Kenya Safari Packages from Australia
The best time depends on what you want to see and when you can travel. Lions, elephants and giraffes live in Kenya all year, so every month has wildlife.
- July to October: the Great Migration season in the Masai Mara, with river crossings most likely from late July to September, and the Australian winter school holidays fall in July. It is the busiest and most expensive period, so book early. Read our Great Migration 2027 guide for honest crossing odds.
- December and January: warm and mostly green, and good for resident big cats, though the herds are usually in Tanzania. This matches the Australian summer break. See our guides to a Kenya safari in December, a Christmas safari in Kenya and a Kenya safari in January.
- Amboseli: elephants and Kilimanjaro views work in most months, with the mountain clearest early in the day.

State school holiday dates differ across Australia and change each year, so check your own state’s calendar and book the camps first. Our trip pages suggest booking 9 to 12 months ahead for July to October and Christmas, and 4 to 6 months for other months; see how far in advance to book a Kenya safari.
Sample 7-Day and 10-Day Itineraries
These outlines come from our real trips, and each is adjusted to your dates.
A 7-day outline: Amboseli, Naivasha and the Mara
This is the route of our Kenya Classic Group Safari, listed from USD 1,650 per person, with six nights on safari.
- Day 1: Nairobi to Amboseli, with an afternoon game drive among the elephants.
- Day 2: a full day in Amboseli, starting with a sunrise drive for Kilimanjaro views.
- Day 3: Amboseli to Lake Naivasha, then a boat ride among hippos and fish eagles.
- Day 4: Naivasha to the Masai Mara, arriving for lunch and an afternoon game drive.
- Days 5 and 6: game drives in the Mara, with an optional balloon flight or Maasai village visit.
- Day 7: an early drive, then back to Nairobi by road, or by flight at extra cost.
A 10-day outline: safari plus Diani Beach
This is the route of our Kenya Safari and Beach Holiday, listed from USD 2,450 per person.
- Days 1 to 3: Nairobi to the Masai Mara, with an afternoon drive, a full day with a picnic lunch and a third day of drives.
- Day 4: Mara to Nairobi for an overnight stay, because there is no direct road from the Mara to Amboseli.

- Day 7: Amboseli to Diani Beach, by road and a flight to Ukunda.
- Days 8 and 9: a free beach day, then an optional Kisite dolphin tour or Shimba Hills trip.
- Day 10: transfer to Ukunda or Mombasa for your flight home.
For a bigger journey, the 14-day Kenya Grand Slam is listed from USD 4,650 and the 15-day Kenya Safari and Beach from USD 3,950.
Combining Kenya With Tanzania and Zanzibar
Kenya combines well with Tanzania and Zanzibar. The 14-day Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar Family Holiday is listed from USD 4,300, and our Kenya and Tanzania safari packages page shows more routes. Our Zanzibar holiday packages page covers the island on its own.

Two cautions. Zanzibar and mainland Tanzania have their own entry rules, including insurance for Zanzibar, which our layover guide covers, and the US State Department’s Kenya advisory text we read, dated July 2026, said travellers from Tanzania must complete a health surveillance form before disembarking in Kenya. We have not confirmed that this still applies, so ask us before you build a Tanzania leg.

Kenya Safari Packages from Australia FAQs
Do Australians need a visa or eTA for Kenya safari packages from Australia?
Australian passport holders should expect to need an approved Kenya eTA before boarding, applied for only on the official portal at etakenya.go.ke. Kenya’s mandatory travel health insurance has also applied since about 6 October 2026. Confirm both on the portal before you fly.
What does Smartraveller say about travel to Kenya?
We could not load the live Smartraveller page on 28 October 2026. Its last advice we could verify, from February 2025, was to exercise a high degree of caution overall. Advice changes, so check the current Kenya page before you book and before you fly.
Are there direct flights from Australia to Nairobi?
We could not confirm a non-stop flight. Most journeys use at least one stop, often through a Gulf hub or Addis Ababa, and aggregators showed totals of roughly 22 to 25 hours from Sydney. Check current schedules with the airline.
What is the time difference between Australia and Kenya?
Kenya is UTC+3 all year. Sydney and Melbourne are 8 hours ahead during daylight saving and 7 hours ahead otherwise, Brisbane is 7 hours ahead, and Perth is 5 hours ahead.
When is the best time for Kenya safari packages from Australia?
July to October suits the Great Migration in the Masai Mara but is busiest. December and January are warm and green and match the Australian summer break. Book 9 to 12 months ahead for July to October and Christmas.
How much do Kenya safari packages from Australia cost?
Our listed trips range from USD 590 for 4 days to USD 4,650 for 14 days, per adult sharing, before international flights. We list prices in US dollars, so check your bank’s rate. Ask for an itemised quote for your dates.
How many days do I need for a Kenya safari from Australia?
Allow at least 6 days on the ground, because the flights use up about two days. Ten to fifteen days lets you add Amboseli, Samburu or a beach finish on Diani.
Do I need malaria tablets and a yellow fever certificate?
Malaria is present in much of Kenya, so see a doctor or travel clinic well before you go. Australia has no yellow fever, but check your route, and note Australia asks returning travellers to declare a visit to Kenya within the last six days.
