Kenya safari packages from India are built for the way Indian families actually travel: three generations in one vehicle, a cousin or two along for the ride, a kitchen that understands “no onion, no garlic” and a short, nonstop flight from Mumbai to get there. Sense of Adventure is a licensed Kenyan tour operator and DMC based at Mountain Mall on Thika Road, Nairobi, and we plan private, tailor-made safaris for Indian families, groups of friends, honeymooners and the Indian travel agents who send them to us.
Every trip runs in your own 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, reclining seats and charging ports, with a private driver-guide who stays with your party from the first morning to the last. This page explains which of our trips suit Indian travellers best, how we handle vegetarian and Jain meals, how to fit a safari around summer holidays and Diwali, and what Indian agents can expect when they hand a group to us.
Quick answer: Kenya safari packages from India

Why Kenya works so well for Indian families and groups
Kenya and India face each other across the Indian Ocean, and the connection runs deep. Families of Indian origin have lived in Kenya for generations, and their presence shapes Nairobi to this day: you will find Hindu, Jain and Sikh places of worship, sweet shops, vegetarian thali restaurants and grocers selling familiar spices and snacks. For a first-time visitor from Mumbai, Ahmedabad or Delhi, Nairobi can feel surprisingly familiar, which makes the start and end of a safari much easier, particularly for grandparents.
The practical details help too. The flight from Mumbai is about the same length as a flight to Europe’s nearest cities, the time difference is only two and a half hours, English is spoken everywhere you will go, and Kenyan hotels use the same three-pin plug style many Indian travellers already carry adaptors for. Jet lag is minimal, so children and older relatives are ready for a game drive the morning after landing.
Most importantly, Kenya delivers the wildlife. The Masai Mara has some of the best big cat viewing in Africa and hosts the Great Migration from about July to October. Lake Nakuru adds black and white rhinos and Rothschild’s giraffes, Lake Naivasha offers a hippo boat ride, and the coast at Diani gives you a beach finish without crossing a border. For Indian groups who like to see a lot in one trip, it is hard to beat, which is why our Kenya safari packages from India combine at least two of these areas.
- One vehicle per family: your party travels privately, so the pace, the stops and the chai breaks are yours.
- Rooms together: for larger families we hold interconnecting or neighbouring rooms where the camp has them.
- Food planned in advance: dietary notes are sent to every camp before you arrive.
- A Nairobi team: we are on WhatsApp throughout your trip, in your time zone give or take two and a half hours.

Every quote comes in two versions, Midrange 3* and Standard Luxury 4*, so you can compare like for like. For groups we add a free-of-charge tour leader, and our AMREF Flying Doctors emergency evacuation cover is included on every trip. To see more routes from the capital, browse our guide to a Kenya safari from Nairobi, or compare Mara-only options on our Masai Mara safari packages page.
Paying from India: tax collected at source (TCS) may apply when you pay for an overseas tour package from India. Under the Union Budget 2026-27 change announced by the Press Information Bureau, the TCS rate on overseas tour packages became a flat 2% from 1 April 2026, with no threshold. How it applies depends on how and through whom you pay, so please confirm with your bank or chartered accountant before you pay. We cannot give tax advice.
Vegetarian, Jain and Indian meals on safari
Food is usually the first question Indian guests ask about Kenya safari packages from India, and it deserves a clear answer. Safari lodges and tented camps in Kenya cook for guests from all over the world, and most kitchens are used to vegetarian requests. Many can also prepare Indian-style dishes such as dal, vegetable curries, rice and chapati on request. Jain meals are possible in many camps with advance notice, though menus in small, remote camps are naturally simpler than in a large lodge.
Our approach is simple: we never assume, and we never promise what a camp has not confirmed. When you book, we record each traveller’s needs in writing and send them to every lodge on your route. The meal plan for your trip is then arranged on request and confirmed in your quote, so you know before you pay what each kitchen has agreed to.
- Pure vegetarian: tell us whether eggs are acceptable, because many safari breakfasts are egg-based.
- Jain: we ask camps for no root vegetables, no onion and no garlic, and request separate utensils. Kitchens cook for all guests, so please tell us how strict your family is and we will ask the right questions.
- Swaminarayan and other traditions: give us your rules in your own words and we pass them on exactly.
- Indian flavours: if grandparents prefer familiar food every day, we ask camps on request and confirm in your quote which can manage it.
- Snacks from home: packing a few sealed, dry snacks for long drives is a good idea; check current customs guidance before you fly.
Nairobi itself is easy for Indian food. The city’s long-established Indian community means there are many Indian vegetarian restaurants and sweet shops, and your driver-guide can stop for lunch on arrival or departure days. Our detailed guide to a vegetarian safari in Kenya covers Jain notes, packing tips and eating out in Nairobi.
Family and multigenerational safaris
Many of the families who book Kenya safari packages from India with us travel as three generations: grandparents celebrating a milestone, their children and the grandchildren. That changes how a safari should be planned. The goal is not to cover the most parks but to make sure everyone, from a six-year-old to a seventy-five-year-old, enjoys every day.
Pace for mixed ages
The five-day Kenya Family Safari, from USD 1,290, starts gently in Nairobi with the baby elephants at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and the Giraffe Centre, breaks the journey with a boat ride at Lake Naivasha and then gives you two nights in the Masai Mara. Drives are shorter than on a longer circuit, and your guide can return to camp at midday so younger children and grandparents can rest while others carry on.
Rooming for big families
Indian families often want everyone close together. We look for camps with family rooms, interconnecting rooms or tents side by side, and we tell you in the quote exactly how your family will be roomed. Children’s rates vary by camp and age, and we include them automatically.

Grandparents on safari
If long road transfers worry you, the seven-day Multigenerational Family Fly-in Safari, from USD 4,400, replaces the driving with short light-aircraft flights between a Laikipia conservancy and the Masai Mara, with three nights in each. A private vehicle in the Mara lets the family split up, so grandparents can relax at camp while the children go tracking with the guide. Light aircraft usually allow about 15 kg per person in soft bags, so we help you pack accordingly. Our article on a safari in your 70s and 80s has more ideas, and the full range is on our Kenya family safari packages page.
Honeymoon safaris from India
Indian wedding season often ends with a long-awaited honeymoon, and East Africa has become a favourite alternative to the usual beach islands. A safari gives newlyweds something genuinely new to share: lions at dawn, a sundowner over the plains and a candlelit dinner under an enormous sky.
The four-day Masai Mara Honeymoon Safari, from USD 1,900 per person, flies you into the Mara for three nights in a romantic tented camp, with private game drives, an optional sunrise balloon flight, a couples’ bush picnic and a candlelit bush dinner. For bush and beach in one week, the 7 Days Masai Mara Zanzibar Flying Package spends three nights in the Mara and three on the island, with flights instead of long drives; we quote it on request for your dates.

Tell us your wedding date and we will flag the honeymoon to every camp. Vegetarian and Jain needs apply on a honeymoon too, and the bush dinner can be planned around them on request. For more romantic routes, including Diani and Lamu, see our Kenya honeymoon safari page.

Groups of friends, community associations, alumni batches and corporate teams from India travel well together on safari, and Kenya handles groups smoothly. The six-day Kenya Group Safari, from USD 1,390 per person, runs for 6 to 30 travellers in several private Land Cruisers, each with its own guide and a window seat for every guest. Per-person costs fall as the group grows, and we hold rooms for the whole party in the same camps. For a longer summer trip, the ten-day Kenya Safari and Beach Holiday for Groups, from USD 2,450, adds Amboseli and three nights on Diani Beach.
For incentive and MICE groups, the four-day Corporate Incentive Fly-in Safari, from USD 2,400 per person, flies 8 to 60 guests into the Masai Mara with private vehicles, a dedicated Sense of Adventure host, a hilltop sundowner and a private bush dinner. Meeting space, award evenings and branded touches can be added on request. Our guide to Kenya incentive travel explains timelines and formats.
For Indian travel agents and DMCs
If you sell Kenya safari packages from India to your own clients, we can be your ground handler in Kenya. As a licensed Kenyan DMC we handle FIT families, honeymooners, series groups and incentive programmes, with written quotes in both of our hotel categories, meal requirements passed to every camp, JKIA meet and greet, and our own vehicles and guides on the ground. We are happy to work white-label, with your branding on the documents. Our Kenya DMC for travel agents page sets out how we work with the trade, and our group ground handling guide covers rooming lists, vehicle numbers and tour leaders.
- Send us: pax and ages, dates, hotel category, meal rules per guest and any special occasions.
- We send back: an itemised proposal with Midrange 3* and Standard Luxury 4* options and a day-by-day itinerary.
- On the ground: one Nairobi team, one WhatsApp group with your tour leader, and AMREF evacuation cover for every guest.
Flights from Mumbai, Delhi and other Indian cities
Mumbai is the main gateway for Kenya safari packages from India. Nonstop flights link Mumbai and Nairobi in roughly six hours, and overnight departures land in Nairobi early in the morning. That timing works well for safaris: rest at a Nairobi hotel, enjoy a gentle first day with the baby elephants and giraffes, and set off for the parks the next morning.
From Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Kolkata, most travellers connect through Mumbai or a Middle East hub. Schedules and frequencies change through the year, so check the airline’s own site before you book, and send us your flight numbers so we can plan arrival and departure days around them. Our guide on whether to book flights or the safari first explains the order that avoids costly changes.
Time difference: Kenya runs on East Africa Time (UTC+3), which is 2 hours 30 minutes behind IST. When it is 10:00 in Mumbai, it is 07:30 in Nairobi, just as the morning game drive is getting going.
When to go: Indian summer holidays, Diwali and the Migration
Kenya has wildlife all year, so the best time for Kenya safari packages from India usually depends on when your family can travel. School calendars differ by state and board, so check your own dates, but most Indian families plan around three windows.
- May and June (Indian summer holidays): while much of India is at its hottest, Kenya’s safari country is green and comfortable, with cool mornings. May is the end of the long rains, so lodges are quieter; by late June the grass is drying and game viewing improves. It is a sensible time for families who cannot wait until the Migration.
- July to October (the Great Migration): the wildebeest and zebra herds are usually in the Masai Mara, with river crossings when conditions allow. This is the busiest season, so book camps 9 to 12 months ahead. Our Great Migration safari page explains timing in detail.
- The Diwali and October break: Diwali falls on 8 November 2026 and 29 October 2027. A late-October trip catches the end of the Migration season in the Mara, while early November brings the first short rains, fresh green landscapes and better value.
- Christmas and New Year: a festive peak in Kenya; book early if your family travels then.
Mornings and evenings in the highlands can be cool, particularly in June, July and August, so pack a warm layer for every family member, including the children and grandparents, along with a hat and sunscreen for the afternoons.
Sample 6-day family group itinerary
This sample is based on our six-day Kenya Group Safari, from USD 1,390 per person, adapted for an Indian extended family with vegetarian and Jain members. Meal notes describe what we request from each camp on your behalf; the exact arrangements are confirmed in your quote.
- Day 1, Nairobi to the Masai Mara: leave Nairobi after breakfast, stop at the Great Rift Valley viewpoint, and reach your Mara camp for lunch. Afternoon game drive and a welcome dinner. Meal note: we send the family’s dietary list ahead, so the first lunch is ready on arrival.
- Day 2, full day in the Masai Mara: a full-day game drive with a picnic lunch, following lions, cheetahs and elephants and, from July to October, the Migration herds. Meal note: packed vegetarian and Jain picnic boxes requested separately and labelled.
- Day 3, the Mara at your own pace: morning and afternoon game drives, with an optional sunrise balloon flight or a Maasai village visit for part of the family while grandparents rest at camp. Meal note: a slower lunch at camp suits older relatives.
- Day 4, Masai Mara to Lake Nakuru: early game drive, then drive to Lake Nakuru for an afternoon search for black and white rhinos and Rothschild’s giraffes.
- Day 5, Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha: morning drive to Lake Naivasha for a boat ride among hippos and a walk on Crescent Island, then a farewell family dinner by the lake. Meal note: ideal for a celebration; an eggless anniversary or birthday cake can be arranged on request.
- Day 6, Lake Naivasha to Nairobi: a relaxed morning, then the drive back to Nairobi, arriving by early afternoon for an Indian lunch in the city or your onward flight.
To begin the trip gently, add the Nairobi City and Wildlife Day Tour, from USD 120 per person, on your arrival day: the orphaned elephants at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the Rothschild’s giraffes at the Giraffe Centre and an optional stop at the Karen Blixen Museum or Bomas of Kenya. More ideas are on our Nairobi day tours page, and our Lake Nakuru safari guide covers the rhino sanctuary.

Entry and health for Indian passport holders
Entry, in brief: apply for your Kenya eTA online before you travel through the official portal at etakenya.go.ke. The eTA fee is from USD 30 per person. Since October 2026, Kenya’s mandatory Kenyan Government travel health insurance is bought during the eTA application: about USD 44 plus small fees per traveller, valid 90 days, with each child needing their own policy, and an Indian policy cannot be uploaded or used instead. Our Kenya mandatory travel insurance guide explains how it works. Carry a valid passport with blank pages for every traveller, including children.
Health: visit a travel clinic six to eight weeks before you fly to review routine vaccines, and ask about malaria prophylaxis, which is advised for the main safari parks and the coast. Older travellers should also carry enough regular medication for the whole trip, plus copies of prescriptions.
Yellow fever certificate for the return to India: India’s Ministry of Health requires travellers arriving from yellow fever endemic countries, which include Kenya, to carry a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. The certificate becomes valid 10 days after vaccination and then lasts for life, so get the jab at an authorised centre at least 10 days before you leave India. Travellers without a valid certificate may be quarantined on arrival, so keep it with your passport.
Before you book, we talk you through your route and current travel conditions.

Are there nonstop flights from India to Nairobi?
Yes. Nonstop flights link Mumbai and Nairobi, with a flight time of roughly six hours. From Delhi and other Indian cities, most travellers connect through Mumbai or a Middle East hub. Always check current schedules with the airline.
What is the best time for an Indian family to go on safari in Kenya?
July to October is best for the Great Migration in the Masai Mara. May and June fit the Indian summer holidays and are green and quiet, and the Diwali break in late October or early November offers good value as the short rains begin.
