Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands work best when they are built the way Dutch travellers already like to travel: independently, with clear prices, real time outdoors and a genuine contribution to the places you visit. Sense of Adventure is a licensed Kenyan tour operator and DMC based at Mountain Mall on Thika Road in Nairobi, and we design private, tailor-made safaris for guests who would rather cycle past zebras, walk with a Maasai guide and see where their conservancy fees go than sit in a minibus all day. This page shows our real trips with verified starting prices, a sample walking itinerary, family timing around the Dutch school holidays, and practical notes on flying from Schiphol.

Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands: the quick answer

  • Cost: from USD 130 per person for a Hell’s Gate cycling day, USD 780 for a 4-day family safari, up to USD 4,200 for a 7-day fly-in walking safari, per person sharing and before flights.
  • Best months: July to October for the dry season and the Mara migration (the zomervakantie), January to March for quiet, dry walking; the meivakantie falls in the green season.
  • Trip length: 7 to 10 days on the ground suits most Dutch guests; one active day at Lake Naivasha can be added to any route.
  • Flights: KLM flies nonstop from Amsterdam Schiphol to Nairobi in about 8.5 hours, and Kenya is only 1 to 2 hours ahead of Dutch time.

A Safari That Fits How Dutch Travellers Like to Travel

Guests who book Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands have usually travelled widely already, often on their own. They read the small print, they compare, and they ask direct questions: what exactly is included, who owns the land we are staying on, can we get out of the car? We like that. It means the conversation quickly moves past brochure language to the safari you actually want.

So rather than a fixed group departure, our Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands start from a real itinerary and are then shaped around you. You travel in your own 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, reclining seats and charging ports, with a private driver-guide who stays with you from Nairobi onwards. You decide when to linger at a sighting, when to stop for coffee and when to swap a game drive for a walk. Every quote for our Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands is offered at two levels, Midrange 3* and Standard Luxury 4*, so you can see precisely what a step up in comfort costs before you choose.

If you are booking Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands as a group of friends, a sports club or a school, our blog post on planning a Kenya safari from the Netherlands as a group walks through the steps, and our private Kenya safari page explains how a private trip differs from a shared one.

Kenya Safari Packages from the Netherlands: 10 Trips and Prices

Each price below is the starting price on the trip page itself, in US dollars per person sharing. It is a “from” price: your dates, group size and chosen comfort level set the final figure in your written quote. We quote in US dollars because that is how parks and lodges in Kenya charge; your bank converts to euros at its own rate when you pay. Where a trip page has no published price, we show “On request” and quote it for your dates.

All Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands listed here start in Nairobi. Day trips start and end there, so they slot in before or after a longer safari, or on a free day around a business trip. The walking safari uses scheduled light aircraft and the camps’ own guides and vehicles; the other trips use our private Land Cruiser. If none of these is quite right, our Kenya safari from Nairobi page lists shorter and longer road routes we can combine.

Responsible Safari: Conservancies, Rhinos and Community

Sustainability is often the first question Dutch guests ask about Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands, and rightly so. The most practical way you can help is by choosing where to sleep and where to spend game-drive time. Much of the wildlife lives outside the national parks, on land owned by Maasai, Samburu and other communities. Where that land is managed as a conservancy, the fees paid by guests go to the landowners and to rangers, which gives local families a reason to keep space for wildlife rather than fence it off.

Conservancies also tend to limit the number of vehicles at a sighting, and they allow activities the main reserves do not, such as guided walks and night drives. That is why our walking safari spends its Mara nights in a private conservancy next to the reserve rather than inside it. Our guide to conservancy fees in Kenya explains what you pay and where it goes, and our sustainability page sets out how we work.

Ol Pejeta: rhino conservation you can see in a day

Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Laikipia, north of Nairobi with Mount Kenya on the horizon, is home to the largest population of black rhinos in East Africa and to Najin and Fatu, the last two northern white rhinos on Earth. On our Ol Pejeta day safari, from USD 380 per person, a ranger explains the work to save the species at their enclosure, and you also visit the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only place in Kenya to see chimpanzees. It is a long day of around 3 to 3.5 hours’ driving each way, so many guests prefer to stay a night or two in Laikipia instead; we are happy to build that in.

For more rhinos on road-based Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands, Lake Nakuru National Park is home to both black and white rhinos alongside Rothschild’s giraffes. Our Lake Nakuru safari page covers the park, and it features on the family safari, the group safari and the 8-day circuit in the table above.

Cycling and Walking With Zebras: Hell’s Gate and Crescent Island

Ask a Dutch family what surprised them most on their Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands and the answer is often a bicycle. Hell’s Gate National Park, near Lake Naivasha in the Rift Valley, is one of the few parks in Kenya where you may explore on foot and by bike. You ride a dirt track past grazing zebras, giraffes, buffalo and gazelles beneath red volcanic cliffs and rock towers, then leave the bikes to walk into the Ol Njorowa gorge with a local guide, past hot springs and steam vents. The landscape famously inspired scenes in The Lion King, as our story on Hell’s Gate and Pride Rock explains.

Nearby, Crescent Island is a private sanctuary on the shore of Lake Naivasha with no large predators. You arrive by boat, passing hippos and fish eagles, then walk with your guide among giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and waterbuck that are used to people on foot. It is gentle, close-up and ideal for children and first-time visitors.

Bikes are sturdy mountain bikes on a dirt track, so anyone used to cycling to school or the station will be at home, although there are no cycle lanes and the odd buffalo has right of way. Children who ride confidently can cycle, and younger ones can follow in the vehicle. If you want more time on foot, read our guide to walking safari safety in Kenya, which covers who leads the walks and the simple rules you follow.

Culture With Respect: Maasai and Samburu Visits

On Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands, a visit to a Maasai or Samburu community can be the most memorable hour of a safari, or the most awkward, depending on how it is arranged. Dutch guests tend to dislike anything staged, so we keep visits small, unhurried and conversational. Your guide introduces you, explains what you are seeing and leaves time for questions in both directions: about cattle, schooling, marriage, the changing climate and what conservation means to the people who live alongside the wildlife.

On the Maasai Cultural and Wildlife Safari, from USD 1,100 per person, three days of Mara game drives are paired with an afternoon at a manyatta, where you may see the jumping dance and learn about beadwork and pastoral life. Further north, the Northern Kenya Cultural Safari, from USD 1,500, combines a Samburu village visit with game drives along the Ewaso Ng’iro River in search of the “Samburu Special Five” and a night in a community-led Laikipia conservancy. Our Samburu safari page describes the reserve in more detail.

Any of our Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands can include a visit. Browse all our cultural tours to see visits that can be added to any itinerary.

Family Safaris in the Dutch School Holidays

Most families plan Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands around the schoolvakanties, and Kenya fits each holiday differently. The Dutch government publishes the official dates by region (noord, midden and zuid) on its school holiday overview; the dates below are taken from it for the 2026–2027 school year.

For younger children, the easiest of our Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands is the Lake Naivasha Family Safari (from USD 780 per person): short drives, a hippo boat ride, the Crescent Island walk, cycling in Hell’s Gate and a full day looking for rhinos at Lake Nakuru, staying at a family-friendly lodge at about 1,800 metres where evenings are pleasantly cool. Families with teenagers often add two Mara nights to make it six days. Camps and activities set minimum ages, explained in our safari minimum age guide, and our Kenya family safari packages page compares every family route.

Flying From Schiphol

For Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands, getting there is refreshingly simple. KLM flies nonstop from Amsterdam Schiphol to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in roughly eight and a half hours, with a late-morning departure that lands in Nairobi in the evening. One-stop connections through other European or Gulf hubs are an alternative if you prefer a different departure airport or fare. Our Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands exclude international flights, so you book the fare that suits you and send us the flight numbers.

With an evening arrival, we meet you in the arrivals hall and take you to your Nairobi hotel for the night, and the safari begins the next morning. On the way home, a late-night or next-day departure leaves time for a final game drive and the drive or flight back to Nairobi.

Jet lag is barely an issue on Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands. Kenya stays on East Africa Time (UTC+3) all year. In Dutch winter time (CET, UTC+1) Kenya is two hours ahead; in Dutch summer time (CEST, UTC+2) it is just one hour ahead. Children usually keep their normal sleep rhythm, which makes a short safari surprisingly relaxed. Kenya uses UK-style three-pin plugs (type G), so pack an adapter.

Sample Itinerary: 7 Days on Foot in Laikipia and the Mara

Among our Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands, this is the one for walkers. The sample follows our Laikipia and Masai Mara Walking Safari, from USD 4,200 per person sharing. It suits active couples and repeat safari-goers who want to see the details you miss from a vehicle: tracks, dung, medicinal plants and the thrill of approaching giraffes and elephants on foot. Walks last two to four hours at a gentle pace, avoid the midday heat and are led by professional walking guides or armed rangers. Flights between camps are on scheduled light aircraft.

Most camps set a minimum age of 12 to 16 for walks, so families with younger children are better suited to the Naivasha trip. Neutral-coloured clothing and comfortable walking shoes are all the kit you need. Best months for walking are June to October and January to March.

Entry Paperwork and Health in Brief

Health preparation for Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands is straightforward. Book an appointment with the GGD travel clinic or your huisarts six to eight weeks before departure to review routine and travel vaccinations, including whether you need yellow fever vaccination for your route. Malaria prophylaxis is advised for the main safari parks and the coast; the Rift Valley lakes and Laikipia lie higher and carry a lower risk, but your clinic will advise on the whole itinerary. Long sleeves at dusk, repellent and the nets provided in camps do the rest. Before you book, we brief you on the current official travel advice for your route and confirm everything in writing.

On all Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands, park rules and fees are set by the Kenya Wildlife Service and by each conservancy, and all entry fees on our itineraries are included as listed on each trip page.

Kenya Safari Packages from the Netherlands: Questions Dutch Travellers Ask

How much do Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands cost?

Our trips start at USD 130 per person for a Hell’s Gate cycling day, USD 780 for a 4-day family safari and USD 1,390 for a 6-day group safari, rising to USD 4,200 for a 7-day fly-in walking safari, per person sharing and excluding flights. Your bank converts to euros when you pay.

Can we really cycle among wild animals in Kenya?

Yes. In Hell’s Gate National Park near Lake Naivasha you cycle past zebras, giraffes, buffalo and gazelles, then walk into the gorge with a guide. Our day trip includes bike hire, ranger and transfers.

Is there a direct flight from Amsterdam to Nairobi?

Yes. KLM flies nonstop from Schiphol to Nairobi in about eight and a half hours, usually landing in the evening. We meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel for the first night.

Which safari suits a Dutch family in the zomervakantie?

The 4-day Lake Naivasha Family Safari gives children short drives, a boat ride, a walk on Crescent Island, cycling and rhinos at Lake Nakuru. In the summer holidays many families add two nights in the Masai Mara for the migration season.

How do your safaris support conservation and local communities?

We use conservancies and community-led stays where guest fees go to landowners and rangers, we can add a day at Ol Pejeta to learn about its rhino conservation work, and we arrange small, respectful Maasai and Samburu visits rather than staged shows.

What is the time difference between the Netherlands and Kenya?

Kenya is on UTC+3 all year. It is two hours ahead of the Netherlands in winter (CET) and one hour ahead in summer (CEST), so there is almost no jet lag.

Can children join a walking safari?

On Kenya safari packages from the Netherlands we plan this by age. Most camps set a minimum age of 12 to 16 for walks with armed rangers. Younger children can walk on Crescent Island, which has no large predators, and cycle in Hell’s Gate if they ride confidently.

Do you offer school and study trips from the Netherlands?

Yes. Our 10-day Educational Trip to Kenya, from USD 1,750 per person, covers wildlife, conservation and culture for schools and study groups, and we tailor it to your curriculum and group size.
